After a recent press release from the newly combined Activision Blizzard, it seemed as though Ghostbusters -- along with a few other key Vivendi games that are in development -- may have been canceled. It turns out that Ghostbusters is NOT canceled, though the other games may still be.
When Activision Blizzard was officially formed earlier in July, the company noted that they would be letting go of any games that may not mesh well with the new company's strategy. Blizzard's games are off-limits, but it seems as though Sierra's properties may not be so lucky. It appears that 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand and Brutal Legend are definitely not going to be released by Activision Blizzard. The developers of Brutal Legend, Double Fine Productions, have reportedly been shopping the game around to other publishers. They are quoted as having said that the game "is fine."
After the flurry of excitement following yesterday's press release, many were speculating that Ghostbusters had been canceled. It appears that this is not true, according to TeamXBox and IGN. However, it is very likely that Activision Blizzard will try to sell the property to another publisher for release. Ghostbusters is still slated for release on October 31, 2008, according to Activision's website.
Other titles that may or may not see the light of day are WET, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and World in Conflict: Soviet Assault. It's entirely possible that any of these games will be released by other publishers, but Activision Blizzard won't comment as of yet.
